Responsible for enforcement of New Jersey Uniform Fire Code, which also includes certification of Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Detector Compliance within the Municipality of Mansfield. Staff consists of the following: All Part time Employees.

The Mansfield Township Bureau of Fire Prevention will require the installation of at least one hand portable fire extinguisher within ten feet of any kitchen in any dwelling unit prior to a change in occupancy or owner. The law defines portable fire extinguisher as “an operable portable device, carried and operated by hand, containing an extinguishing agent that can be expelled under pressure for the purpose of suppressing or extinguishing fire, and which is:
- Rated for residential use consisting of an ABC type
- 2A-10BC: No larger than a 10 pound rated extinguisher
- Mounted within 10 feet of the kitchen area (Unless otherwise permitted by the enforcing agency)

The DEP Radon Program can provide a list of certified companies that provide testing services or do-it-yourself test kits. Residents can contact the Program at 1-800-648-0394 or http://www.njradon.org Radon kits can also be obtained from many hardware stores such as a Lowes and/or Home Depot.
